Why You Weigh Less in the Morning
Step on the scale in the morning and again at night and you might be a kilo or two heavier by evening. You didn't gain fat — here's what happened.
Overnight, you get lighter
While you sleep you don't eat or drink, and you lose water through breathing and sweating. So you wake up at your lowest, most stable weight of the day.
During the day, it climbs
Every meal and drink adds weight until it's processed. By evening you're carrying a day's worth of food and fluid — temporary, not fat.
The takeaway
This is exactly why you should weigh at the same time every day, ideally first thing. Comparing a morning reading to an evening one is meaningless.
Let the trend do the work
Weigh consistently and the trend cuts through the daily rise and fall.
