How Often Should You Weigh Yourself?

Guide · 3 min read

Some people weigh daily; others avoid the scale for weeks. What's actually best? The answer is simpler than the debate suggests.

Weigh often, react rarely

Frequent weigh-ins give you more data points, which makes your trend line smoother and more reliable. The catch: you must not react to any single reading.

The case for daily

Daily weighing at the same time gives the clearest trend and removes the drama from any one number, because you see how normal the fluctuations are.

The case for weekly

If the scale stresses you out, weekly is fine — just know your line will be bumpier with fewer points, and a single weekly reading can mislead.

The rule that matters

Whatever your frequency, judge progress by the trend over weeks, not by today versus yesterday.
